| | The moment the entire Republican National Convention has been building toward arrived Thursday as businessman Donald Trump accepted the nomination to become the GOP's presidential candidate. Trump beat out 16 primary opponents to head the 2016 Republican Party ticket. He is the first person to win a major party nomination without having previously held public office since Dwight Eisenhower.
