| | Democrat Hillary Clinton announced via a text message to supporters that she has selected Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as her 2016 running mate. The Clinton team has been high on Kaine from the start because of his extensive governing experience - he is a moderate former governor, lieutenant governor and Richmond mayor. Virginia is also a key swing state in November.
