All pregnant women should take steps to prevent mosquito bites, said CDC director Tom Frieden. The mosquito species that spreads Zika, the Aedes aegypti, lives in 30 states, in addition to territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The federal health agency says doctors should ask pregnant women about their travel histories to see if they need to be tested for Zika. Pregnant women who live in or frequently travel to Miami's Wynwood neighborhood, where Zika is spreading, should be tested in the first and second trimester of pregnancy.
